Shelter Housing

Pens at the Shelter
Part of the original shelter showing some pens used for patient recovery.
The majority of these pens have been replaced or repaired over the years.

Smaller specialized pens

Because of the fragile and helpless situation the patients that come to the shelter are in, it is imperative that they be kept as safe and secluded as possible. Keeping up with the maintenence of older buildings and providing new and specialized pens for the different types of birds and animals the shelter receives, is a constant battle.

Inside the Flight & Recovery Pen

Predator species must be kept far away from the prey species or the stress would be to much for either of them.

The flight and recovery pen is for predators who have recovered enough to start building up their strength prior to release. All animals must be strong enough to hunt and survive before being released back into the wild.

Chalet for smaller birds

There are no other facilities in Prince Rupert, to take unwanted or abandoned pet birds such as budgies, canaries and cockatiels. So the shelter has provided this pretty little chalet. Until a safe adoptive home can be found for them, this chalet is their home.

2007 - New replacement pens

With the generous help of volunteers, community support and donations, the shelter was able to build new pens. These provide a safe and sheltered haven for the patients until they recover and are healthy enough to be released back into the wild.
