Brigette Hausner shaved head made a nice day for the Prince Rupert Wildlife Shelter.
Hausner buzzed her locks right off from the top of her head Friday in order to raise money for local animal helpers, Gunther and Nancy Golinia. And it turns out that Hausner was successful in her efforts as the local woman raised $354 for the shaved head. But that was just a pittance compared to the $1,963.74 total she had raised for PRWS.
Hausner hairy donation was greatly appreciated by the Golinia's who rely on their own wallets and donations from Rupertites to keep their operations going each year. As for Hausner she's adjusting to life without a mop on her top. "Because it's so cold around town, I am wearing a toque every day when I'm out on the street," admitted Hausner Tuesday.
Not that she is complaining about her new 'do'. "It was totally worth it to do something for a good cause," said Hausner. The PRWS, run by the Golinia's, originally began as a means to provide medical nursing and supportive care to wild animals until they could be returned healthy and strong to their natural habitat. Since its inception, the shelter has also taken in hundreds of
unwanted, orphaned or injured domestic animals the SPCA cannot care for. These animals include pet guinea pigs, rabbits, birds and turtles and make up one third of the shelters inhabitants. Right now there are 75 animals recuperating at the shelter plus several kittens that were found under the Inlander just before it was torn down.
Special thanks to Doris Dominato for doing the hair cuts for this event & many thanks to everyone that donated towards this great cause.
THE WILDLIFE SHELTER THANKS THEM ALL !

| April, 2009 - Conrad Elementary School SEEDS FOR OUR FEATHER FRIENDS AGAIN Mae Jong-Bowles and Marie Cox-Rogers Kindergarten class recently teamed up with Oceanwild Nature Expedition, running a special fundraiser.
For the few weeks leading up to "Earth Day", students were very busy selling packages of seeds to help our feathery friends and the Prince Rupert Wildlife Rehab Shelter. This has been a long and cold winter. Our feathery friends needed our help to kick start SPRING. Kindergarten students with the help of many other students at Conrad School
took orders for bird seed. Close to a hundred pounds of seed was donated by Oceanwild. Packages of seed were sold for $2 each, with all the funds raised being donated to the Shelter. In the photo, the class and teachers are shown presenting a cheque for a staggering $1800. The Prince Rupert Wildlife Rehab Shelter thanks
everyone for their efforts and we are humbled by this generous donation... WE THANK YOU ALL !
