Female - Rufous Hummingbird

This Rufous Hummingbird, is a female. These beautiful birds are very hard to photograph as they are always moving so quickly. When they are ill and very tired it is easier to get a picture of them. Even these very tiny members of the bird family need to be rehabbed. Below are some more photo's of this birds stay at the shelter.

This little fellow has been flying in the rehab box. She is treated and ready to go!

She is outside and ready to go but, she knows that she is still tired. Another night under the heat lamp, with her own private nectar tube, was all she needed. The next morning she flew off on the next leg of her migration north.

Male Rufous Hummingbird Hummingbird under heat lamp

This male Rufous Hummingbird, came in immediately after the last one left. It must have been the season for tired and hurt hummers. The photo to the left shows it's beautiful scarlet gorget, or throat patch, that sometimes appears black. The next photo shows him starting rehab under the heat lamp with his own nectar tube. This bird flew into a window and has a very bad headache!
