Barney the Barred Owl

Hi, my name is Barney. I am a Barred Owl and I was found by a hikers dog called 'Scouty', as they were walking along the railroad tracks. I was hidden in the bushes and Scouty kept coming back to me, until his owner came and looked in. They took me to the Shelter, where Nancy and Gunther looked after me, until I was well enough to fly again. I had been eating poisoned mice and it made me very sick. After I was better, I found myself a mate and had two babies. I'm very happy that I didn't miss out on that in my life!

Northern Pygmy Owl

I am a Northern Pygmy Owl and I have come to stay at the Shelter, until I stop feeling dizzy. I was not looking where I was going, and got a glancing blow from a car. A concussion isn't a very good thing for an owl, you know. I will be okay in a little while. The food is so good around here so, I'm in no hurry to leave.

Adult: Northern Pygmy Owl

This full grown Pygmy Owl was picked up and brought to the shelter. His only problem was that he could not fly with the weight of the Starling he had killed. It was his lunch and he was not going to let go of the Starling, until it was all eaten. He could fly just fine, afterwards.
